About Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo International Airport, at Butmir on the south-western edge of the capital, is the main gateway to Bosnia and Herzegovina; Tuzla is popular with low-cost airlines, and Mostar and Banja Luka have smaller airports. A Sarajevo Airport transfer gets you to the old town or any hotel in the city after a short drive, and it is just as practical for the longer road south through the Neretva valley to Mostar. On Tranigo you compare vehicles and local providers for your private transfer and pay the price you see when you book.

Sarajevo tells its story in layers: the Baščaršija bazaar, the corner by the Latin Bridge where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot in 1914 and, out by the airport, the Tunnel of Hope from the siege of the 1990s. The best-known day trip heads to Mostar and its rebuilt Old Bridge, often combined with the Ottoman village of Počitelj and the Kravica waterfalls.

In a country whose history runs from Ottoman bazaars and Austro-Hungarian avenues to the war of the 1990s, a local guide is worth having – especially in Sarajevo's old town, at the Tunnel of Hope and in Mostar, where a guide explains what the buildings alone cannot. Use the Guides tab in the search above to look for a private guide, or write to us on WhatsApp.
