Glasgow is located in west-central region of Scotland standing on the banks of River Clyde. Glasgow is the one of the largest city of Scotland and is only 20 miles from Atlantic. It is spread across most of the lower Clyde valley and now extends beyond it. The name of the city orignated from Gaelic name "Glaschu" that literally means "Green Glen". Glasgow is Scotland's largest city with around 700,000 people living in it. The city is around 80 km from Edinburgh.
The history of the area goes back to pre-historic time but the city develped back in 550 CE. It was built by St. Kentigern who laid the foundation of religious community in the area. There is also a cathedral that is dedicated to St. Mungo and was built in the 12th century. It also has famous stone bridge over the Clyde that dates back to 12th centurt.
Glasgow as a city prospered as market centre as it was located between Highland and Lowland between Edinburgh. After the union of the Scottish and English crown, the city grew significantly. But the exports and business was affected during the unrest in America and English Colonies. Currently, the city economy is heavuly weighs on engineerings, manufacturing, aerospace techonolgy, software engineering, and other low-carbon innovation. It has many pharmaceutical, bioinformatics and medical infomation. It is an important financial and business service hub.
